BSc Kinesiology — Queen's University | MSc Physiotherapy — Brunel University London
Megan's path into physiotherapy started on the gym floor. After completing her BSc in Kinesiology at Queen's University, she worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach right here at BTB — helping members build strength, mobility, and resilience through training. That hands-on coaching experience led her to pursue her Master's in Physiotherapy at Brunel University London, where she trained alongside professionals treating everyone from post-surgical patients to active seniors. Now practicing as BTB's Resident Physiotherapist, Megan combines clinical skill with a coach's eye for movement — helping you get out of pain and stay there.

As we age, maintaining functionality and independence becomes increasingly important. For retirees in Stittsville, staying active and healthy is crucial for enjoying life to the fullest. Massage therapy can play a significant role in helping retirees achieve these goals by alleviating pain, improving mobility, and enhancing overall physical function.
Many retirees experience physical challenges such as arthritis, joint pain, and decreased mobility. These issues can make everyday activities more difficult and reduce the quality of life. However, regular massage therapy can address these concerns effectively.
Massage therapy offers a range of benefits that can help retirees maintain their independence:
Pain Relief: Massage therapy can alleviate chronic pain associated with conditions like arthritis and muscle stiffness. Techniques such as deep tissue massage and myofascial release are particularly effective for reducing pain and inflammation.
Improved Mobility: Regular massage sessions can enhance joint flexibility and muscle elasticity, making it easier to move around and perform daily tasks. Gentle stretching and joint mobilization techniques are especially beneficial for improving mobility.
Enhanced Circulation: Massage therapy improves blood flow, which helps deliver essential nutrients and oxygen to tissues and organs. Enhanced circulation can reduce swelling and promote faster healing of injuries.
Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Massage therapy activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps reduce stress and promote relaxation. This can lead to better sleep, improved mood, and a greater sense of well-being.
Boosted Immune System: Regular massage therapy can strengthen the immune system by increasing the activity of natural killer cells, which help fight off infections and diseases.
For retirees in Stittsville, integrating massage therapy into a regular wellness routine is a proactive approach to maintaining health and independence. Here are some tips:
Schedule Consistent Sessions: Set up regular massage appointments, whether weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Consistency is key to experiencing the full benefits of massage therapy.
Communicate with Your RMT: Let your Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) know about any specific issues or concerns. They can tailor the massage to address your unique needs and ensure optimal results.
Combine with Other Activities: Pair massage therapy with other wellness activities such as light exercise, yoga, or water aerobics to enhance overall health and mobility. Infact, exercise can be one of the most powerful anti-aging tools that we have. Reach out to the team at BTB to see how we can help!
Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water before and after a massage session can help flush out toxins and keep your muscles hydrated and healthy.
Massage therapy is a powerful tool for enhancing functionality and independence in retirees. By alleviating pain, improving mobility, and promoting relaxation, massage therapy can help retirees in Stittsville enjoy a higher quality of life.
