Embracing Slow Days: How to Thrive on Days When You're Not at Your Best

Some days, everything just seems to go your way. You wake up feeling energized, everything falls into place, and you have a great workout at the gym. These are the days we like to call "fast days." But unfortunately, not every day is going to be like this. There will be days when you wake up feeling sore and sluggish, you're not in the best mood, and you just don't feel like going to the gym. These are the "slow days."

On slow days, it's important to recognize that you're not running at 100% and it's not fair to expect yourself to hit PRs or be blazing fast on the rower. It's important to be kind to yourself and recognize that you're already a winner for just showing up. The first win is just making it to the gym. The second win is getting a great warm-up in. And the third win is focusing on moving well, even if that means going a little lighter or slower.

Slow days can actually be some of the best training days because they strengthen your commitment to do things when it's not easy (i.e. life!) and they help you focus on parts of your training that aren't always given enough attention (i.e. technique practice). So next time you're having a slow day, remember to be kind to yourself, focus on just showing up, getting a great warm-up, and moving well. These small victories will help you stay committed to your fitness journey and improve your overall performance.
